A huge THANK YOU to everyone who attended, helped out and participated the 2010 Charity Fight Night. The Clifton and East Leake Clubs did extremely well winning 3 Golds Medals and 3 Silvers. All the bouts went without injury and were a fantastic display of the skills and techniques we practice every week.
HALLOWEEN FRIGHT NIGHT
Fighters from the Clifton and East Leake PKA Kickboxing Clubs had an unprecidented success at the PKA National Championships on Saturday the 12th of June 2010. For most it was the first national tournament they had entered and all fighters should be really pleased with themselves. Congratulations to Jack Evans, Olivia Haslam and Sophie Calvert who all gained bronze medals and a special well done to Andy Spencer who despite winning 4 fights had to pull out of the medal race due to injury.
Well done to Everyone!!
Well done to everyone who took part and came along to support the day was a fantastic success with 22 pre-arranged fights. In the end it was a close contest with the team from East Leake and Clifton winning the day and claiming a total of 13 Gold medals 12 Silver medals
Rob Gundle (aged 36), who trains at the East Leake Kickboxing Club, has recently received notice that he successfully passed his 3rd Dan Black Belt grading. Rob started training with the PKA in 2002 and has been consistently training at the Clifton and East Leake Clubs ever since. Rob successfully passed his first black belt in 2005 and went on to be awarded his 2nd dan in 2006. Through hard work and commitment Rob went on to achieve his 3rd Dan Black belt in March 2010. This really is a fantastic achievement for Rob, making him the only 'non-instructor' in the PKA to receive such a high accolade.
We hope Rob’s achievement will act as inspiration to students and prospective students alike and remember a Black Belt is just a beginner who never gave up!!!!
WELL DONE ROB

Instructor Martin Byrne along with assistants Michelle Redman and Jimi King recently delivered a 90 minute kickboxing class for the Royal Nottingham Society for the Blind. The class was enjoyed by all and Martin, Michelle and Jimi all found the students very inspirational and prove that with the right frame of mind you can acheive anything you want! Well done to the guys at NRSB and we are all looking forward to the next class.
It's that time of year again where you have the opportunity to test your ability against fighters from all 130 PKA clubs in the UK. The National Championships is a great day out for fighters and spectators so dont miss out and ask your instructor for details or call 07979 965404.
Congratulations to the team of four who attended the Boston Championship Series in April 2010.
Sophie Calvert (Green Belt) fought a significantly more experienced black belt fighter and whilst dominating the early part of the fight lost on the judges score card by a split decision.
Jimi King (Green Belt) was tested to his ability by fighting a much taller opponent with a significant reach advantage. Jimi fought with un-questionable heart and passion but regrettably lost out on this occasion.
Following a long and challenging day Martin Byrne (Black Belt) and Kevin Groombridge (Yellow Belt) ended up facing each other in the final. Martin and Kevin put emotions aside and became enemies for the 2minute championship round. Following a judges decision Martin brought home the Gold and Kevin was happy to take the Silver on this occasion!

Self Defence Seminar - Saturday April 18th 2009
On this two hour seminar you will learn basic self defence skills that will give you the knowledge and confidence to help you protect yourself and those close to you from harm if you ever had to. The techniques you will be shown are all easy to remember and more importantly easy to pull off which is vital in a real life self defence situation.
Steve Winter (Brown Belt) just missed out on a medal coming fourth in the under 90kg open grade category. Steve demonstrated a convincing and dominating first round win and showed tremendous skill in his fight for the bronze medal.
Luke Brown (Red Belt) did exceptionally well squaring up and trading punches with a much more experienced brown belt fighter. Luke took the fight the full distance before loosing on points. Luke showed great heart and determination and is definitely a fighter to watch out for in the future.
Russell Brown (Red Belt), shocked all spectators by taking the fight to a much more experienced PKA Black Belt fighter. Russell showed skills and experience far beyond his current grade and was leading on the judges score card until the fight doctor called an end to the bout due to a nasty cut on his nose. Disappointed but not disheartened Russell is back training hard and looking forward to the re-match.
Well done to all the fighters and the supporters who went along to the Tournament.
